What odd and wrong-headed logic! In fact it is the cycling athletes who are not easily discouraged. More power to them.

It's everyone else that will be discouraged by the lack of a safe venue.

In the last month, I've put close to a hundred hours into making this list of books. It may be of interest to you.

The LG code marks books on bicycling.

Glad you like it. You are the first person I've shared it with directly.

I want to pass it around, but I don't want to annoy anyone.

Of course I'm always interested in suggestions to make it better.

I'd never heard this term, but I realise this is what I have been for the past half century. Having done it all this time I feel fairly confident doing it (although selective about where I do it), but I would never advocate it as a transport policy, I wouldn't take my grandkids riding along many of the roads I'm happy to ride myself and I never choose to do it when there is a viable separated path or where there's a busy road with no paved shoulder.

While JF died in 2020, his legacy very much lives on in AASHTO design guidelines. He successful embedded himself into the traffic engineering world and influenced a generation of traffic engineers. It will take at least another generation to undo the harm he did. But it does illustrate how effective one loud and persistent person can be. It works both ways, so we must just as loud and persistent in working to undo his life’s work.

Well stated. Bikes, buggies, and golf carts aren't cars or trucks, but they can carry a lot of people where they need to go, and need their own low speed lanes.

This shouldn't be so hard for people to understand. And just painting an extra white line on the road isn't enough.

Wow this is amazing. I had no idea. What a crank. We’ve just spent two weeks in Italy where, in the city centers at least, pedestrians rule. Cars are treated as foreign objects that have to wait their turn to pass. It’s so refreshing.
