Hire me!
I use keyboards, cameras, and microphones to create memorable stories for you and your organization.
Standing out from the crowd is hard. Let me help you.
I worked for 25 years in traffic engineering, transportation planning, urban planning, shared mobility, and smart city technology. Now, organizations hire me because they need to stand out from the crowd.
My clients need to attract and retain the best talent, they need to persuade decision-makers, and they need to set themselves apart as subject matter experts.
I work with freelancers, small businesses, and Fortune 500 companies. My services include specific projects and teaching, all with an emphasis on simplifying complex issues.
My role is to strategize and develop the right stories, in the right format, delivered to the right audiences. Each of your stories serves a different purpose, takes on its own form, and resonates with your target audience.
You might be:
a professional service firm wanting to show thought leadership.
a technology startup plotting a go-to-market strategy.
a nonprofit writing grant proposals.
a transit operator needing to increase brand awareness.
I can do the work for you, or teach you how to be a storyteller.
Copywriting: blogging, audio and video podcast scripts, e-books, email marketing campaigns, and training curriculum.
Podcasting: audio and video production, voiceovers, interviews, facilitation, and market strategy.
Photography/Videography: marketing campaigns, corporate headshots, case study videos, executive portfolios and stories, and visual storytelling strategy.
Urban planning & mobility strategy: big ideas with practical applications, policy review & reform, design techniques, multimodal safety, and bicycle/pedestrian innovation, and Mobility-as-a-Service strategy.
Public engagement & meeting facilitation: engagement strategy, digital media strategy, social campaigns, project event planning & facilitation, technical education for lay audiences.
Technical training: professional development, elected officials workshops, community activist instruction, and course development.
Not just a marketer, but an infrastructure storyteller.
Through in-person and online events, I’ve had the opportunity to teach thousands of people how to write, speak, photograph, and film stories that are memorable. Infrastructure impacts everyone, and it shouldn’t be boring.
As a freelancer, contractor, and full-time employee, my roles have included:
Chief Marketing Officer for four startups,
senior corporate roles responsible for the messaging and authority-building of technical practices,
strategist guiding clients through digital marketing strategy, brand management, client relationship management, media services, lead generation, and creative media (production and distribution).
I’ve appeared on and produced dozens of webinars, virtual summits, live streams, and other online education outlets. I’ve developed my own curriculum for every training program or course I’ve taught. Virginia Tech, University of Virginia, University of Richmond, and Virginia Commonwealth University have hosted me as a guest lecturer.
The awards I’ve won for writing, filmmaking, photography, and podcasting all relate to storytelling in and around the built environment.
The Federal Transit Administration gave special me special recognition for two of my books: Emerging Trends in Transportation Planning (2016) and Bike Share: Site planning, business models, ridership, and regulations of the most misunderstood form of modern transportation (2019). My contributions have also been acknowledged by Engineering News-Record (Top 20 Under 40, 2016) and Style Weekly (Top 40 Under 40, 2016).
My professional organization roles have included founding board member of MaaS America, vice chair of American Planning Association’s New Urbanism Division, and chair of the Institute of Transportation Engineers’ Transportation Planning Council.
Enough about me. Send me a note so we can elevate your work and expertise to stand out from the crowd.
