One of the hallmarks of simplistic 20th century “scientific” inventions was the creation of a single, very stupid, metric to focus your attention. LOS embodies all of it. It sounds important, it’s easy to identify, and it’s totally worthless and counter-productive.

I'm trying to remember the last time on my daily walk I _didn't_ have to wait at least a minute after arriving at the intersection for my chance to cross...

Also I note that per the standards you cite, a whole minute is not only "unacceptable" is is "intolerable" gee that sounds bad.... ;)
